Your guide to a food-filled weekend in Spokane, WA
Sometimes you just need to get away. Sometimes your best friend lives in a nearby city that’s 4.5 hours away. Sometimes you pack up your car and go visit her. We jumped in the car after work on Friday, headed out and made it just in time to catch a drink.
El Que
If you’re thirsty for a margarita, El Que is an awesome little find. Their sign offers it all: Tacos, Tamales, Tequila. I was sold. We walked into Spokane’s tiniest Tequila Bar. No, really. That’s what it is. It’s cute because it’s small. But who am I kidding? It’s an edgy little place. (I think they’d be mad if I called them cute to their face.) It’s def a place for the cool kids to hang.
Their drinks are fun and different; make sure you order one. None of them are alike and they each have a nice little twist.
I opted for the Sinsonte: Olmeca Altos Tequila, St. Germain, Ruby Red, Lemon. Anything with St.Germain catches my eye every.damn.time. Don’t ask me why b/c I don’t have an answer.
After a drink, it was time for some sleep! We had to wake up early to go skiing on Saturday!
Break: Today we Skiied
After a full day of Skiing, we were ready for some food and drink. So we headed off to:
Kendall Yards
Kendall Yards is marketed as Spokane’s premier urban neighborhood. Urban by Nature (their words, not mine). I like their words here, they’re pretty perfect. Props to their marketing team. This place is its own bustling hub of everything you need and it is SO walkable.
Brunch, ice cream, coffee, sushi, pizza, lunch, dinner, boutiques, night markets, art galleries, float spa, bank, tattoo parlor, physical therapy, and homes. Actually, there’s more I could add to that list but surely you’ve figured it out by now. They know exactly what the heck they’re doing in this itty, bitty, urban community.
So the magical question: Where did we go in Kendall Yards?
Maryhill Winery Tasting Room
The 4 of us split a bottle of wine at the Maryhill Winery tasting room and relaxed while enjoying great live music. Catching up with friends over a glass of good, quality wine has to be one of my favorite things to do.
Central Food
It was Spokane Restaurant Week, so we took full advantage of heading to one of their featured restaurants; Central Food. One of their
Hogwash
After enjoying some time at Kendall Yards we decided it was time for a night Cap. Because you can’t have a great day skiing, drinking and eating without trying just one more drink in an underground bar. May I present, Hogwash.
Thus, we took a trot over to Hogwash Whisky Den. Located in the Washington Cracker Building. If you like Whiskey, get your butt in here. I don’t like whiskey, but I still got my butt in here.
It’s dark, it’s crowded, but it’s fancy AF. And the bartenders pour so freaking much work and love into each drink they make. Sit at the bar, watch the drinks being made and enjoy the candlelight. Plus, you just have to say hello to the little Pinocchio hanging over the bar. Check this place out. For real.
Break: Bed. Because us humans have to sleep.
Okay, one last meal before we got back on the road to get home. The most important meal of the day: Brunch.
Bruncheonette
Ummm Helloooooooo, cutest name ever. But guys, it’s not just a cute name. The team at Bruncheonette work together to execute amazing meals (and drinks) here.
Obvs it was mimosa o’clock! Bruncheonette has it going on; your choice of orange, peach, mango, or pomegranate juice to go with your champagne. But wait, there’s more. If those choices aren’t fancy enough for you…
- Georgia Mimosa: Peach juice, gran citron & champagne.
- Lavender Mimosa: OJ, Lavender infused vodka & champagne.
What has this world come to? Whatever it is, I’m pretty stoked about it. So yeah, I had their lavender mimosa. Heavenly.
And then, it gets better because -Food-
Two words: Tamale Waffle.
HA! It looks ridiculous just seeing it typed out there, but that’s because it is. It is ridiculously tasty. What it entails: A green onion/ cheddar tamale waffle. Mexican spiced shredded beef, cherry tomatoes, pickled jalapeno, cilantro, lettuce, crèma & some lovely fried eggs on top.
This place is AMAZING. You best be going to Bruncheonette in Spokane.
If you don’t have a friend to visit in Spokane, that is 100% okay. BUT, if you find yourself wanting to get away for the weekend, check out Spokane. It’s a pretty neat place.
