I brunched SO hard in Scottsdale.
Brunch is taken VERY seriously in this city.
I thought I was a brunch person AND I thought Seattle had some pretty impressive brunch spots, but boy was I mistaken. Now, let me share with you my favorite brunch spots that Scottsdale has to offer.
Butters
My first brunch of the trip was at Butters.
The name is cute, but it also packs a pancake promise.
Butters takes their pancake business very seriously.
To be honest, I’m not a huge pancake person. But that’s okay! I think most people aren’t pancake people.
We like our Benedict’s, our scrambles, our omelets and our hashes.
Everyone likes a few bites of a pancake, but not everyone wants to eat a plate full of sugar.
That’s why Butters is genius and they serve you a short stack “side pancake” with your meal.
Let me say that again: A Short Stack Side Pancake.
Please understand the “Side Pancake” is a silly little lie because you’ll get a stack of multiple pancakes in your “Side Order.”
And that’s not all. You can choose any of their fancy pancake combos. Ie, Oreo Cookie S’Mores, Wildberry Bliss, Cinnamon Roll… the list goes on and on.
Make your way to Butters, experience the goodness of their huge menu and delicious brunch.
Also, get here early or plan to wait because the line will be long.
Elements at Sanctuary
Okay so of course because we were staying at Sanctuary, we had to eat breakfast here. And I’m so glad we did. But if you’re not staying at Sanctuary and you just want to enjoy a great meal, then that’s okay too! Tons of people come to dine at Elements without being hotel guests; it’s totally cool. But! If you’re interested in staying at Sanctuary, you can read all about my experience here.
I had one of my favorite breakfasts here and you might too. I ordered the vegan tofu scramble. It sounds weird… it’s not. The chef magically scrambles up some tofu so that it looks like, tastes like and feels like scrambled eggs. Then he puts some black beans, salsa, avocado and a bunch of other goodies on there and you guys, it’s freaking amazing!!! What’s also amazing? Their breakfast potatoes; make sure you order a side of those. They’re soft, pillowy, perfectly seasoned bits of potato and I want you to eat some for me.
Hash Kitchen
What the hell…
Those will be your first words upon walking into Hash Kitchen. Either that or something along the lines of “This is so cool!” or “No Way” or “This is absolutely ridiculous but I think I might love it!”
Hash kitchen is a breakfast club. And it should probably think about changing it’s name to that:
Hash Kitchen Breakfast Club.
Because that is what it is.
Let me explain… You walk in and bam! Right in your face, a live DJ in a DJ booth with a disco ball sparkling in broad daylight; speakers on every wall. You can’t hear a damn thing besides the music, you’re now yelling to add your name to the list so you can get a table and you’re pretty uneasy about what you’ve just encountered.
Then… you see it. The real reason you came here: The Bloody Mary Bar.
Is it a 45 minute wait for a table? At least.
Is that okay with you? Yes, because there’s a Bloody Mary bar.
Now don’t get confused because they do have a regular bar area too where they make all their other drinks, but their Bloody Mary bar is front and center and will be where you need to go.
How to Bloody Mary at Hash Kitchen
You walk right up, and order directly from the bartender. He’ll ask you how you want to customize your Bloody Mary. Let me explain because this part is just crazy.
- Step 1: Pick your rim
- Celery Salt
- Bacon Salt
- Step 2: Pick your infused vodka
- Celery
- Cucumber
- Bacon
- Cilantro lime
- Pickled pepper
- Jalapeño
- Step 3: Pick your tomato base
- Classic
- Habanero
- Chili pepper
See! I told you it was crazy.
In case you were wondering, I ordered a bacon salt rim, cilantro lime vodka and habanero tomato base. Be warned, the habanero tomato base is not for the weak; it will light your mouth (and tummy) on fire.
But wait, there’s more! That’s not all there is to the Bloody Mary bar.
- Step 4: Get crazy with toppings
- Now that you have your custom made drink, you get to pick out your toppings. And the toppings is a serve yourself bar so you can add on as many or as little toppings as you would like. There are over 60 toppings to choose from, so make your choices wisely because they’re obviously not all going to fit.
My favorite toppings were the fried ravioli, pickled asparagus and bacon spears. But obviously there were so many to choose from, I would have to come back many more times, to figure out the best combo.
By the time you’ve created your Bloody Mary, danced around in the lobby to the DJ’s music and stared at all of the plates of food coming out of the kitchen, it’s time to be seated!
Now remember, this place is loud. So if you’re looking for a nice, relaxing brunch this is not your jam.
We had to yell our orders to our waitress, she still couldn’t hear what we were saying and
our orders got mixed up multiple times.
But hey, I guess that’s all part of the experience. It’s not their fault and I totally get it, so we were happy regardless.
Their Benedict menu was pretty off the charts. I ordered the Tamale Benedict which was great with the masa; yum. But Kaleb took the prize with the Pretzel Benedict. It. Was. So. Good.
If you like pretzels and you like eggs Benedict and you are willing to put up with a crazy, loud and fun environment then the pretzel Benedict will be your order.
And because this was now a breakfast club, and we had our custom Bloody Mary’s, we decided to just go all in and order all the fun drinks on their menu.
Let me present to you: The mimosa flight and milk and cookies flight.
Yeah, they do alcoholic-brunch flights and it’s amazing.
If you’re here with a group, then you will need to order these because they are fun and cute and delicious.
If you find yourself in Scottsdale and are hungry for brunch, you can happily head to Butters, Elements or Hash Kitchen and find yourself pleased with a happy tummy.
Happy Brunching!
