A Ballard Brewery
A few months ago, I had the privilege of attending, Ballard Seafood Festival where I tasted the best Blood Orange IPA I have ever had. You can read about that experience in my post, here.
That Blood Orange IPA came from Lucky Envelope, and from the moment I tasted it, I knew that I wanted to visit the brewery. Today was my lucky day.
Lucky Envelope Brewing is located in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.
Opening their doors on May 7th, 2015, they are fairly new to the game and they are absolutely killing it.
What’s behind the name? May I direct you to their explanation, found on their website:
“The name Lucky Envelope comes from the Chinese tradition of the elderly generation giving the younger generation red envelopes filled with paper money. The color red is meant to ward off evil spirits and bring good health, while the money inside is supposed to bring prosperity.”
Their available beers are always on rotation. Thus, my favorite blood orange IPA sadly was not on tap the day that we visited. Luckily, that allowed me to venture out and try a few new beers.
I opted for a tasting flight. I always love ordering a flight at a brewery, as it pushes me out of my comfort zone and allows me to usually find a few new favorites.
We came on a Saturday when the Huskies were playing (GoDawgs). We asked if we could change one of the tv’s to show the game, and the lady behind the bar was kind enough to not only put the game on for us, but she even turned off the music and put the audio for the game onto the main speaker system. In the meantime, a few more husky fans trickled in and we had magically turned this brewery into a Husky fan den, serving up great beer. It was truly an awesome experience.
Great beer, great staff; Lucky Envelope ensures a great time.
