First of all, what is an apothecary?
Before we get into the list of Apothecaries in Seattle, you may not know what an apothecary is! Fair enough. Apothecaries date back to medieval times and were the forerunners of our modern day general western medical practice. Medieval apothecaries prepared their own herbs, spice blends, and even wine to sell to the local people in search of medical advice and products. Over the last 400 years, apothecaries have come and gone in popularity. Today they are gaining traction, as many of us begin our search for holistic and natural remedies.
Apothecaries today are the go-to for a more natural approach to wellness. 400 years later, present day Apothecaries still carry herbs and spice blends, but probably won’t be carrying house-mulled wine (probably for the better). Luckily, they do tend to carry natural beauty products and a ton of essential oils. Because they can be hard to find, please use this list of apothecaries in Seattle as your guide.
1. Cunning Crow
Located just North of Seattle, in the heart of Greenwood, you will find The Cunning Crow Apothecary, right on Greenwood Ave.
“The mission of the Cunning Crow Apothecary is to offer traditional medicine for a modern world; providing a variety of herbal remedies and self care goods to meet your health and wellness goals. Through educational programs, healing services, and physical & spiritual self-care supplies, we seek to empower folx to reclaim the magic of their daily lives.”
Opening their doors in 2015, they began as a meeting space for the local community. Just one year later, they were able to open their storefront, offering their products and practices to those interested in natural healing practices. Step inside The Cunning Crow to find tea, candles, crystals and more.
Beyond spices and herbs, they offer an array of services including but not limited to:
- Accupuncture
- Cranio-Sacral Therapy

2. Dandelion Botanical Company
Dandelion Botanical Company sits right on the corner of Market Street and Ballard Ave in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Besides their stellar location, they have an amazing selection of tinctures, jewelry, crystals, oils, books, and more.
“Dandelion is a family owned herbal apothecary specializing in quality botanicals. We make a special point of buying from organic and ethically wildcrafted sources when available. The brand names that we offer are those that reflect our high standards.”
Dandelion Botanical Co. has been in business since 1996, making it a staple in Seattle. If you’re unable to make it into their beautiful storefront, you can head over to their website and buy your herbs and spices online. Acacia Gum, Amalaki, Bala Root, Kava Root, Neem Leaf, Suma… The list goes on and on. They keep their prices up to date and you can order items by the ounce. They ship across the entire country and orders are usually sent in 1-4 business days.
3. Tenzing Momo
Tucked back away in one of the many corners of Pike Place Market is Tenzing Momo. Out of all the apothecaries in Seattle, Tezning Momo is my favorite, but I think that comes with bias, as I’ve been shopping here since I was a child.
This Pike Place Apothecary is Seattle’s oldest herbal apothecary and perfumery, in business for over 40 years. With 300+ herbs and another 250+ oils, Tenzing Momo is probably going to have what you’re looking for (and more). If you’re looking for something other than herbs and oils, then you’re in luck because they also carry over 100 incense, along with tinctures, bath salts, supplements, vitamins, lotions and soaps.
Stop by for a tarot card reading, stop by to grab a book or two off their shelf or just stop by out of sheer curiosity. Tenzing Momo will not disappoint you.
4. Sugar Pill
If you live in Seattle, odds are you’ve walked by this apothecary. Located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, you will find Sugar Pill right on Broadway and Pine. If you’ve seen the Jimi Hendrix Statue, then you’ve seen Sugar Pill.
“SugarPill is Capitol Hill’s neighborhood herbal apothecary, featuring medicinal and culinary herbs, cocktail bitters and bartending essentials, gourmet salts, pantry staples and hard to find chocolates, as well as a divine selection of natural products for your body and home. Experienced herbalists are on staff and consultations are always free of charge.”
Sugar Pill is one of those fun shops that runs as 1/3 Apothecary, 1/3 Grocer, 1/3 Mercantile.
5. B Fuller’s Mortar & Pestle
If you’re wandering through the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle and find yourself searching for the nearest Apothecary, you’ll find B. Fuller’s Mortar & Pestle on the corner of Fremont Ave and Fremont Place, right behind the famous Statue of Lenin.
Founded in 2009, B. Fuller’s M&P thrives to create a meaningful connection between its customers and its herbal products. They take a known product like tea and make it fun for everyone. If you’re looking for a range of tea flavors, this is your place. They carry classic teas like Earl Grey and Jasmine, Herbal Tisanes like Juniper Sage and Yerba Mate, and Botanical Teas like Blackcurrant and Mango Black.
“Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding in people of the wonders of the plant kingdom through the use of Botanicals in Teas and Tisanes. The company was started four years ago by three partners here in Seattle, with a focus on three things: Quality, Sustainability, and Cup Worthiness. We use high-grade botanicals, sourced from industry leaders with proven records of excellence, we utilize organic and local botanical ingredients in the majority of our blends, and we send each blend through an extensive product testing to ensure beauty of liquor, excellence in flavor, and balance of elements.”
6. Zenith Supplies
While Zenith doesn’t market themselves as an apothecary; they carry all the right supplies to be one. If you type “apothecaries in Seattle” into your search bar, Zenith most likely wont show up; but don’t let that stop you from visiting!
We carry only the finest oils, lotions, and creams at wholesale prices – 100 pure, steam-distilled essential oils; over 100 fragrance oils; brand name oils; and bulk oils. Essential and fragrance oils are packaged in eight different sizes, and in quantities convenient for massage, aromatherapy, and body care. Ask us about bulk herbs and resins, exotic oils, and carrier oils.
In addition to oils, bulk items and glassware, they also have an entire store section devoted to massage tables, massage chairs, hot & cold therapy supplies, massage tools, yoga mats and meditation cushions.
Take a walk through the store and you’ll even find some fun goodies tucked back in the corner of the shop; a wall of incense along with a fairly large section of singing bowls. Fun fact: you can “test drive” the singing bowls.
7. Herban Wellness
While not in Seattle, Herban Wellness is over in Kirkland for anyone on the East side of town. Technically speaking, this apothecary maybe doesn’t belong on the list of Apothecaries in Seattle, but we’re not speaking technically here so we’re going to let that go. Stocking loose leaf herbs, teas, tinctures, oils and books, this Apothecary offers a vast range of items. They love to help people naturally aid their common health problems such as stress, inflammation, headaches, fatigue, common colds and more.
“Our dedicated, trained herbalists strive to create a healing space for our customers to feel heard and to get the best advice and products possible to meet their health needs and to help live a nontoxic lifestyle. Founded in 2009 by Katya Difani, we are dedicated to serving our community through our individualized consultations, classes, and high quality products.”
Owner and founder, Katya Difani opened Herban Wellness back in 2009 with hopes of creating a safe space where community members can come to purchase high quality herbal products and experience a local, natural pharmacy. Not only does Katya run the Apothecary, but she also teaches classes on natural skincare and herbal medicine for prevention and health maintenance.
Not able to stop by Herban Wellness in Kirkland but still interested in their offerings? Head over to their online store where they have nearly all of the same products.
